Update - May 2008
THE competition to find Hinckley Carnival Queen 2008 will be held at a special gala evening next week. It will take place at the town's LE10 nightclub on Wednesday (7th May), starting at 8pm.
Once again the competition will be organised by Pubwatch, in conjunction with the Carnival Committee, and the Queen and her attendants will take pride of place at the head of the procession on Carnival Day.
The main prize will be a studio photo session for the carnival queen and her friends, sponsored and donated by Artography, who will be responsible for all official photography at this year’s carnival queen event. (More information is available from www.artography.uk.com).
The Queen will also win a manicure, facial and make-up by Malvina’s Beauty and a VIP day out and photo session at the Marston Stadium.
Gowns for the Queen and her attendants are being provided free of charge by Shareet Dress Hire.
One of the judges for this year’s event will be Elaine Reymes–Cole, who was Hinckley’s first-ever postwar carnival queen when it became an annual event in 1961.
New Sponsor
And last, but certainly not least, TF Bell Group have provided the carnival with events insurance free of charge as their donation to the carnival. This has saved the Carnival Committee £400, meaning even more local groups and charities will benefit from this year's event.
Last entries for floats, tug of war and stalls are Monday 5th May.
Baby Show promises to be the biggest yet
Reilly Studios in Hinckley are once again organising the Baby Show, which promises to be the biggest yet.
An entry form is available to download by clicking here.
The categories for the competition are as follows:
0-3 months
3-12 months
12–18 months
This year the judges will be picking a boy and girl from each category and will be looking for the cutest baby, the biggest smile and the nicest outfit.
The first prizes for each category will be a hamper for baby worth over £500.
Also, if they complete an entry form, parents will be automatically entered into a draw for prizes worth over £400, including gifts donated by Tom Paynes the jewellers, Lady Buggs florist, Billington Bears, All Dressed Up, The Sketchley Grange Hotel, The Milestone, Kinder Music, Adams and Reilly Studios.
Prizes are still being added to the hampers so if any local companies can help, please contact Kerry Edge on 01455 610782.
In addition, on Carnival Day there will be a face painter next to the Baby Show tent, turning the little ones' faces into little works of art.
If any other businesses want to become involved in the biggest event in the town's calendar, Carnival Chairman Neil Turvey can be contacted on (01455) 234658.
