Record collection as town backs Carnival

HINCKLEY Carnival 2010 was a great success as townspeople turned out in force to support the event. In fact, it was so successful that over £1,400 was collected during the parade through the town, which is a record for the day.

The final amount raised by the event is still being calculated as the proceeds are still awaited from from the gala Carnival Queen event.

But the 34 organisations set to benefit from the Carnival fund are sure to be delighted when they receive their cheques at a special presentation evening at the Clarendon Club in July.

The committee would like to thank Balloonatics for providing the Carnival Mascot, Tinny Hat, which marched in the procession on Carnival Day for the first of many outings.

Tinny will now appear as a representative for the Carnival at all future events. The mascot cost in excess of £500 to be manufactured and sports the Balloonatics logo.

The committee also wishes to thank Brindley’s Transport, Premier Logistics and Wykin Shires in particular, without whom the Carnival would have not been the success it was.

Meanwhile, the Carnival Committee is already looking ahead to next year's Golden Jubilee Carnival on Sunday 5th June 2011 and is urging anyone who is celebrating a 50th birthday, or has been Carnival Queen or Princess since 1961, to contact them on 01455 234658.
