New date for Hinckley Carnival

THE new date for this year's Hinckley Carnival is Sunday 13th September. Having got the green light from the Borough Council for the new date it will now be 'all systems go' for Hinckley Carnival Committee.

The work now really starts for the committee and it will probably be even more difficult than having to organise the event the first time around.

We will have to contact every group that was going to have a float or walk in the parade and everyone who booked a stall on the carnival field, as well as those booked to give displays and the bands that were due to appear on the band stage.

With this being a new date arranged at relatively short notice, it is expected that the attendance may be affected considerably, but nevertheless the Carnival Committee are determined to try and ensure that, one way or another, there will be a Carnival in 2009.

To recoup the losses from the postponement of the event, the committee are going all out to try and arrange as many events and fund-raising activities as possible between now and 13th September to boost the funds, but although we have the ideas and commitment of the Committee it means nothing if we do not get the support from Hinckley people.

Family Fun Night in July

A FREE family fun night has already been arranged for Friday 3rd July at “The Meeting Place”, Marchant Road, Hinckley (rear of Hinckley Leisure Centre).

There will be entertainment and party games and refreshments will be provided. The Carnival Queen and Princess will be in attendance.

It's a Knockout teams needed

Meanwhile, we are also hoping to organise an It’s a Knockout competition. We have written to almost 100 businesses in the area to try and stage this event, as we cannot do it without team entries.

So if you have not been contacted and would like to enter, please contact the Chairman on 01455 234658 for an entry form.

New raffle prizes donated

We had to draw the raffle on Carnival day due to the Lotteries Act and therefore the original prizes were all allocated.

But the response of local businesses to give new prizes for 13th September has been amazing with Bosworth Water Park, Four Seasons and Triumph Motorcycles all donating prizes at short notice. In addition a family portrait canvas as a first prize has been given by Picture Perfect.

And finally....

We must also thank the kind generosity of Jamie at Brookfield Signs for donating new banners for the new date too. So look out, because the Hinckley Carnival Committee will be coming to get you!
